Honestly, can you ever get too much Doctor Who? Surely not, and if you are a big Dr. Who fan then you are anxiously awaiting the release of the Doctor Who Black Guardian Trilogy DVD next month. August 10th is the big release date, and Who fans have already placed their pre-order for this exciting release.
Within this boxed set there are three DVD’s. The titles are Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, and Enlightenment. Mawdryn Undead tells the story of how the character Turlough, propelled by the Black Guardian, is supposed to to kill the Doctor himself. Turlough is posing as a student but in reality is an alien that only wants to return home. He is convinced that completing this job is the only way for this to happen. During this excitement there is trouble with the functions of the TARDIS instruments. Turns out the jamming signal causing the problem is originating from Earth. All sorts of near misses and craziness ensues. Tegan and Nyssa find a man that is terribly burned and they are afraid that it could be the Doc.
The story goes on in Terminus. The Black Guardians still have Turlough under their thumb. He messes with the controls of TARDIS which makes it then become connected to a space liner. The large complex interior soon gets Tegan and Turlough all turned around and confused as where to go. Space pirates, named Kari and Olvir show up and run into Nyssa and the Doc.
The story in Enlightenment brings new adventures. There is a sailing competition between the Doctor, with his band of regulars, and beings called Eternals. The Eternals are not good company to say the least. They are not only mind-readers but also mind feeders. So meanwhile they are all racing and trying to win, of all things, Enlightenment .
It is really about time that we are getting a selection of these Dr. Who tales on DVD. This will be really nice to see because the quality is better than ever. If you love Dr. Who, you better get your hands on this one. Within the DVD threesome there are some fun extras. You can listen to the cast and crew, of who wants to live forever, discuss things as they think back to when they were in the process of creating the shows. There are also the always appreciated outtakes, deleted/extended scenes and Easter Eggs.
